In its effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in India, Uber announced the launch of its new service called UberMedic. This will be used to transport healthcare workers.
Uber India and South Asia’s President, Pradeep Parameswaran said about the launch in an official statement.
Also according to Parameswaran, the new service would work closely with hospitals as well as making use of its technology and global experience. With UberMedic, hospitals could arrange transportation for healthcare workers to travel back and forth between their homes and healthcare facilities easily.
UberMedic will ensure to provide healthcare workers with an efficient and reliable way to travel around. The service will be available 24/7.
Through the platform, top-rated drivers, as well as dedicated cars, will be facilitated.
To follow the government advisory and protect the safety of the drivers, Uber will provide its drivers with personal protective equipment which includes gloves, face masks, hand sanitizers, and disinfectant sprays.
The drivers will receive training in safety protocols related to COVID-19, like letting riders sit at the back instead of the front passenger seat.
Phone support will also be provided to riders using this service.
After the pandemic spread to India, Uber has made some changes to its services. Pooling car services will be temporarily unavailable for customers in India. In the Uber app, if you look at the “Uber Pool” option, it is now marked as “temporarily unavailable.”
Following the 21-day lockdown from the government, Uber has halted all of its operations in Delhi NCR.
