NBC has recently decided to loosen its firm grip on the broadcast rights of 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan. The US National Broadcasting Company is partnering with the social networking service Twitter to provide Twitter users with limit highlights and live coverage, as well as an Olympics show that lasts 20 minutes per day, via both its apps and website.
Last year, during the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, NBC teamed up with Snapchat to offer some highlights and live coverage packages via the app’s Discover tab. According to the New York Times, the newest collaboration between Twitter and NBC has marked the first time the Comcast subsidiary allows its partner to deploy live videos of Olympics.
In addition, Twitter users will have a chance to experience interactions with sports events and live streams each morning. More particularly, they can choose to vote for any athlete or sports event they want to see on this platform or vote for 5-minute live streams. Advertisers can also sponsor coverage from Twitter.
In fact, most of the Olympics coverage of NBC will continue to operate on its digital platforms and networks. For NBCUniversal, the 2020 Summer Olympics is an important event that helps it to make big profits. The Comcast-owned company hopes to earn more than 1.2 billion dollars from ad sales during this event.
