On April 1st, Tiktok, the famous Chinese short video platform, donated Rs 100 crore of hazmat suits and masks to assist doctors as well as other medical staff in the battle against COVID-19 in India.
In a statement, the company praised the Indian government for its efforts to subdue the number of infected cases. Through this donation, TikTok wanted to be a part of the effort. The company received support from the Union Ministry of Textile to make this essential gear that followed the prescribed guidelines and standards.
The gear will be sent to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Meanwhile, the masks would be offered to medical workers at the local and state level. The Delhi and Maharashtra governments have already received the masks.

Not just TikTok, earlier, Xiaomi announced that it would make a donation of lakhs of N95 masks as well as a contribution of Rs 15 crore toward the country’s fight against COVID-19.
The Alibaba Foundation and the Jack MA Foundation have also announced that they would send to India essential medical supplies.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India keeps rising every day and has now reached over 2,500 cases with more than 70 deaths.

To contain the spread of the disease, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put the whole country under lockdown. Citizens are asked to stay inside their houses, practicing social distancing.
State governments put strict rules over people who come back from foreign countries. For example, the Maharashtra government has decided to stamp people who have to undergo home quarantine. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has asked people in home quarantine to upload hourly selfies on an app developed by the state government.
