The World's Largest Solar Plant Will Be Built in Ladakh, India

Ladakh is ready to put a major mark in the field of sustainable energy as the world’s largest solar plant will be built right here, adding glory to all that breathtaking landscapes.

According to a report from TOI, besides providing power for the area, this huge project will focus on glaciers preservation and lower the amount of 12,750 tonnes of CO2 each year.

The project will also help unemployed people find jobs. The Solar Energy Corporation of India under the instruction of the ministry of new and renewable energy is promoting that the projects match the locations’ impressiveness with Ladakh’s 5,000MW and Kargil’s 2,500 MW. The project is scheduled to start operating in 2023 with Rs 45,000 crore investment.

The project of Ladakh will be placed at Hanle-Khaldo which is in Nyoma. The power from this power plant will reach Kaithal, Haryana through a 900km line along the Leh-Manali road.

Another positive point is that the administration of  Leh and Kargil have put forward a total area of non-grazing land of 12,500 and 25,000 acres on what is called remuneration prices. With this, the hill council can earn revenue from the solar plant's renting money, which is approximately Rs 1,200 for one hectare with a 3% annual growth.

For this project, one of the most challenging tasks was to combat difficult topography and weather conditions. For now, identifying the location has resolved some of the problems.

The power plant construction brings a promising future for citizens living in the area as many can apply for jobs like maintaining transformers and cleaning the solar panels.
