Spotify Is Reportedly Testing Its First Hardware Called ‘Car Thing’

Spotify may test the first hardware with a group of certain users and it is likely that the company will provide ‘Car Thing’ for free for its premium users.

Spotify has reportedly tested a smart assistant that is controlled via voice to help US drivers to get a better experience while traveling on their vehicles. The first hardware of the music streaming company from Sweden is called ‘Car Thing’.

Spotify wrote a post on its official blog saying that

To charge power, ‘Car Thing’ is plugged into the 12-volt outlet of the vehicle. In addition, it also makes use of Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to the driver’s smartphones and car.

According to a report from The Verge, drivers just have to say “Hey Spotify” to start the device and then, a song request will be displayed and show their available playlists. The next part is users’ duty: they just need to choose any favorite songs.

In terms of design, ‘Car Thing’ includes two major parts: the first part is a circular screen that shows what song you are listening to, and the second part contains many buttons which can help you to handle with various tasks relating to playlist presets.
