According to reports, the South Korean phone maker, Samsung, is having plans to make a $40 million investment into Niantic Inc., the developer of Ingress and the worldwide famous mobile game Pokémon Go. Samsung internal sources revealed that Niantic will probably develop high-profile smartphone games which Samsung is exclusively providing on the Galaxy phones. According to the sources, the partnership between Samsung and Niantic can generate some mobile games of Niantic to default on Samsung phones.
Even though little is known about the deal, Niantic is spending efforts to earn money on an IPO next year; at the same time, the Korean phone manufacturer does not mind spending millions of dollars to get its own exclusive contents for its products.
Niantic was founded in 2010, based in San Francisco, the USA. The founder is John Hanke, who started Niantic as a software development firm. Niantic got recognized after the success of Ingress, an AR location-based game, but it was not until Pokémon Go that the game developer really struck the market. Nevertheless, the collaboration with Samsung is likely to start with something related to a Harry Potter game, which may be a big hit from Niantic’s previous AR titles.
We do not know for sure if Niantic will rework the game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, or will the firm come up with a totally different thing. Yet, there are high chances the game will be exclusive to the Galaxy Note, which involves using the Samsung’s S-Pen a lot.
Talking to the Inquirer, the anonymous source said that after a lot of negotiation and pushing, Niantic succeeded in landing a deal with Samsung which is worth $40 million. We can expect official information and an announcement about this partnership by year end. Also, results may come to us, featuring on the Galaxy S10 in early 2019, February maybe.
