Through theft reports from Amazon combined with criminal data, the police identified areas of high theft and launched a plan to catch the thief. The Associated Press reported said that Jersey City police had placed fake Amazon packages outside residents' houses to lure greedy thieves. Cameras are mounted on the bells and GPS navigators placed in the fake packages provided by Amazon in order to have full evidence of theft.

Thieves took the packages in only a few minutes
On Tuesday, a package was taken after being placed on the porch of a house for just three minutes. The suspect taking the package was arrested by police, but still no information about what wrongdoing this person was accused of. After all, the existence of this plan is successful enough to warn thieves.
In Jersey City, members of the regional police department volunteered to put boxes and cameras in front of their homes. Jersey City Police Commissioner, Michael Kelly, has said he hopes the program will be expanded to many places to reduce theft in many areas. After a full legal review, a prosecutor approved the proposal.
Previously, the same program succeeded in several cities in California, Oregon, and New Mexico, according to the Associated Press.

Amazon offers some other measures for safer deliveries for customers
There is no exact number of packages stolen, but it seems big enough for Amazon to really care about this and invest in this program to catch thieves. Amazon also has other measures, such as the Amazon Key, which allows the driver to unlock the customer's door in order to leave the package indoor. Also, the giant e-retailer offers less technology-intensive approaches such as having a neighbor pick up your goods for you or delivering them to a local collection center so you can pick up at the convenience store.
Amazon is known to have used other similar theft and fraud prevention measures. The company has arrested drivers for dishonest delivery. The workers in the warehouse must also be checked carefully when entering and leaving the building.
