As of February, Reliance Jio became the fastest mobile network, registering 22.2 megabits per second regarding download speed. Meanwhile, Vodafone ranked top regarding upload speed, indicated by TRAI data. Following Jio is Bharti Airtel with the download speed of 9.3 Mbps. In addition, TRAI assessed Idea Cellular and Vodafone separately even though they have merged their mobile business.

In January, Vodafone’s network registered download speed of 6.8 Mbps, which slightly increased to 7 Mbps in February. On the other hand, Idea managed to increase its download speed to 5.6 Mbps. After the merger in January, Vodafone still held the first place regarding upload speed, registering 7 Mbps. Idea was in second place with 5.5 Mbps of upload speed.
At the end of February, the average download speed of Jio was 4.6 Mbps while that of Airtel was 3.6 Mbps. The download speed is a critical aspect when it comes to video watching, Internet browsing, emails accessing, and the upload speed plays the key role when users share data online such as videos, images, as well as other files, via either emails or social platforms.

TRAI has come up with the statistics on average network speed through a collection of data around India, using its MySpeed application on a real-time basis. The Android Play Store reported that this app has been downloaded over 10 lakh times.
In separate news, Reliance Jio confirmed that it will launch its JioGigaFiber service in 1,600 cities following a series of success in the beta tests. The service is expected to offer home broadband, smart home solutions, and entertainment with a unified package. The company has delayed the launch several times since last year, but according to a new report, Reliance Jio has completed its tests. In August 2018, Reliance Jio announced its JioGigaFiber service for the first time and since then, it has been doing tests on the FTTH broadband service with a select user sample from major cities.
