Kanpur Alumnus Arvind Krishna To Become Tech Giant IBM's CEO

Arvind Krishna, an Indian American engineer and executive, will take over the CEO position of IBM as Ginni Rometty steps down from the throne.
Before this appointment, Krishna was the Senior Vice President and is responsible for IBM Security and Cognitive Applications, IBM Research, and IBM Cloud.

He has also served as the general manager of the manufacturing organization of IBM System and Technology Group. He was once the leader of multiple businesses relating to data.
Arvind Krishna attended IIT Kanpur and gained his Ph.D. from the University Of Illinois. He also received the Alumni awards.
Other achievements of Krishna include co-authoring 15 patents and writing for well-known journals like IEEE and ACM. The transition of power is expected to happen in April.
Ginni Rometty has held the CEO position for eight years and during that time, IBM has made 65 acquisitions. One of the most noteworthy endeavors is when the company bought Red Hat for a total of $34 billion. The purchase is one of the largest ever done by IBM.

Her departure was announced after the company reported revenue growth in six quarters. Ever since Rometty took over the CEO position, the tech giant has lost 25% of its value.
She will continue to work with the company as an Executive Chairman and then retire after spending four decades with it. She said in a statement that Arvind was the right person to lead the company in the new era.
Commented on the appointment, Arvind Krishna said expressed his thrill and appreciation for the trust the board and the former CEO placed in him.
