Owners of iPhones, iPads, and other iOS-based devices in India will get the Nearby feature whenever they use the Apple Maps app. Up to now, the exclusive online map service for the ecosystem of Apple users still sees a huge gap between it and the long-time rival Google Maps.

With the Nearby feature, iPhone users can search for locations like restaurants, petrol pumps, grocery stores, etc. in a specific area. This is pretty similar to how Google approached its Google Maps service, but it’s something really new for Apple Maps and this feature would slowly make up for the lack of capabilities in the competition against Google Maps in the country.
To use the feature, users can select the search bar in the app and then see a list of available services. Since Apple started to localize features for the Indian market, a series of improvements have been conducted for better experiences.

However, it’s evident that Google Maps is still safeguarding its unbreakable foothold among the community. Android phones have taken over 90% of total smartphone devices, thus resulting in Google Maps being chosen as the default service when it comes to navigation apps.
Now with the new feature, customers using Apple devices can have another choice instead of Google Maps. The fact is that the service will have a long way to go once it wants to catch up with Google Maps. On the other hand, users will be pleased with their privacy protection, thanks to the company’s data safety priority.
