Infosys, a global firm specializing in consulting and IT, has joined “The Climate Pledge” which was launched by e-commerce giant Amazon back in 2019.
With this move, Infosys becomes the first company in the country to join the RE100. Companies taking part in this initiative pledge to operate using 100% renewable energy.
For those who may ask what “The Climate Pledge” is, it is a scheme put forward by Amazon to tackle climate change.
In its annual update, Amazon said that the initiative was to invest in companies whose services and products would assist the shift to a low-carbon economy.
Many major companies have joined the pledge, including Verizon and Reckitt Benckiser. Infosys was the second company to join the pledge.
For a long time, Infosys has been using renewable energy. In 2018, the company stated that of its overall energy requirement, 109.7 million units were from renewable power, resulting in 43.7% of its electricity needs fulfilled through clean energy.
In a recent webinar that was hosted by Mercom, Infosys’ Lead Consultant Energy and Utility Services, Rakesh Bohra, said that at several of the company’s campuses around India, Infosys installed 59W captive rooftop as well as ground-mounted solutions.
Working together with Amazon on this is Global Optimism, an enterprise focusing on making social and environmental change.
Christiana Figueres, former Climate Change Chief at the United Nations, praised the firm for its decision to take part in The Climate Pledge.
