Hundreds Of Famous Music Videos Remastered In HD On YouTube

In a partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG), Youtube is going to upgrade a large number of music videos (MVs) from SD to HD, and bring these old hits up to modern standards. Over 100 MVs, whose artists are Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie and Janet Jackson, will be remastered in terms of visual quality. Until the end of the year 2020, Youtube and UMG will make that number 10 times bigger, which means 1,000 upgraded music videos.

YouTube explains on the Official YouTube Blog that there are some videos that are only available in outdated standards initially made for tube televisions that have mono speakers. Moreover, people nowadays are watching and listening to music videos on different platforms supporting HD-quality, thus, YouTube is upgrading videos on its platform, which will enhance the view experience for mobile users, desktop users as well as those who watch from their living room.

Even though on YouTube Music and YouTube, the original music videos will be replaced by the HD versions, the number of views, likes as well as the URLs remain the same. Any music videos with “Remastered in HD!” or a #Remastered label in the description box are the upgraded versions. Perhaps, many music videos weren’t made with high-definition visual quality, but they will look extremely clearer after being remastered.

Some iconic songs, which were released in 1991 and have been there for decades, such as “Free Fallin” of Tom Petty or “End of the Road” of Boyz II Men, are also remastered.

The partnership between YouTube and UMG is expected to inspire other labels and prompt them to remaster and re-upload the new videos versions of their music artists with the best quality as possible.
