HMD Global: Nokia Mobile Phones Will Be Exported From India

Nokia aims to be among the three largest smartphone makers in the nation in the next two or four years.

According to Ajey Mehta - the Vice President & Country Head of HMD Global, the company plans to export Nokia mobile phones from India and has begun discussing with Foxconn which now serves as HMD’s contract manufacturer.

HMD Global is researching which plans to export both feature phones and smartphones in all areas in the world, even in Africa or similar counties near India.

He also stated that exports will get feasible when the company begins manufacturing components in India. In addition, HMD Global partners with Foxconn to bring component suppliers to the nation. Manufacturing components is expected to start in the near future and ensure itself suitable with the Indian market.

Up to now, Nokia has been one of the three biggest feature phone manufacturers in India with about 8.5-9% share. As per Nokia smartphones, the company occupies about 3-3.5% share. It aims to be among the three largest smartphone makers in the nation in the next two or four years.

According to officials from HMD Global, India didn’t seem to be affected by reports saying that Finland was investigating Nokia phones sending personal data to China. A spokesperson of the company also confirmed that it didn’t share any personal information of its customers with third parties.

According to the spokesperson, HMD Global just collects data on Nokia mobile phones to activate these handsets when owners have bought them. This kind of industry practice will allow phone makers to activate the warranty for their products. “HMD Global takes the security and privacy of its consumers seriously.”
