Reliance Jio and Google are collaborating to create an operating system based on Android for budget-friendly smartphones to run on.
According to Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, the new OS aimed at affordable smartphones for the Indian population portion who are still using 2G.
Google and Jio Platforms are now working together to develop an Android-based operating system for entry-level handsets. They claimed they would think everything from the ground up for this project, whose ultimate goal is to bring smartphones to every Indian.
Mukesh Ambani said Google had made it possible for millions of Indians to access useful information and much like Jio, it was a force for innovation and change. He also expressed hope for the partnership to become a driving force for Digital India.
The strategic partnership between Jio and Google was also confirmed by Sundar Pichai, the search engine giant’s CEO at Reliance AGM.
He said India’s scale and pace of digital transformation were hugely inspiring. It also reinforced Google’s view that products built for the Indian market would help the company make better products for the rest of the world.
Sundar Pichai confirmed the investment of ₹ 33,737 crores into Reliance Jio to bring smartphone experience to those who don’t have access to such a device.
