Google Aims At Government Sector In India To Promote Cloud Business

It is the time Google should focus more on further exploring the government sector while state governments have kept their eyes on a variety of initiatives such as setting up smart cities.

A few days ago, Google revealed the annual revenue run rate of its Cloud business has reached more than 8 billion dollars. The tech company is reportedly aiming to promote the developing Cloud services in India’s government sector.

This move is supposed to bring expandable, secure, and fast multi-Cloud experience, as well as the capabilities of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to government clients.

The Director of Google Cloud in India, Nitin Bawankule, said that it was the time the company should focus more on further exploring the government sector while state governments have kept their eyes on a variety of initiatives such as setting up smart cities. Also, these governments have made efforts to shift their workloads to a safer Public Cloud or on-premise environment.

In an interview with IANS, Bawankule said,

The latest report of Nasscom also points out that, along with the increasing adoption of Internet of Things (IoT), AI/ML, and Big Data analytics, Cloud market in the country will be able to hit 7.1 billion dollars by 2022.

An alumnus at IIM Bangalore, who now works as an executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience, said that

The region for Google Cloud Platform or GCP has been available in the Indian market since 2018. Accordingly, the Cloud region in Mumbai which deploys core infrastructure, AI/ML, and data analytics of Google focuses on providing lots of services from Big Data, storage, networking, and compute. Bawankule added,

Bawankule also emphasized that the leadership of CEO Thomas Kurian has led to the growing development of Google Cloud on SMBs, startups, unicorns, and big enterprises in India.

Google has recently acquired Elastifile, a cloud storage company. In addition, the company has also made an official announcement on its plan to buy Looker, a data analytics platform for 2.6 billion dollars. Bawankule noted,
