In June, Firefox released Enhanced Tracking Protection to protect users’ privacy. It can automatically block over a thousand trackers. Today, the browser launches a dashboard detailing how the feature works to protect your personal data.
To access the dashboard, you can either click on the three-line button, then select “Privacy Protections,” or choose the shield near the address bar. Whatever method you choose, you will still see a dashboard with a list of third-party cookies categorized by type. All of the four types will have explanations so that you can learn more about how the Enhanced Tracking Protection works. With today’s update, Firefox starts adding social media’s cross-site trackers to its list of blocking too.
From the dashboard, you will see the Lockwise password manager of Firefox, which also has some added features. Lockwise is the desktop version of Mozilla’s Lockbox password manager.
The first new benefit Mozilla gave the function is the password generator that will help you with creating stronger passwords. An audit tool is another new function. It will tell you to change the password if a data breach happens.
It seems like only regular users of Firefox will reap these gains from these latest updates. However, other users will also indirectly benefit. Back in August, Apple to lay down stricter privacy policies for Safari. The iPhone maker said that Mozilla had inspired it to put a heavier emphasis on users’ privacy.
Apple said that apps and websites that tried to bypass the cross-site tracking feature of Safari will be treated as malware. The company also shared that it would target specific practices of bad actors. These changes will be applied without any notice.
