While you are practicing social distancing in real life, Facebook now offers a way for you to practice social distancing online too. On Thursday, the social giant rolled out Quiet Mode, a feature that mutes all notifications and allows you to take a break from your online friends.
The move indicates how Facebook is trying to limit the drawback from the overuse of social media due to lockdowns and quarantines. According to studies, using social media can lead to mental health problems like depression and anxiety. Even the social giant itself is aware that social media can have negative effects of users just consume content passively instead of actually interacting with other people.
At the same time, Facebook has also been testing other features, such as one that hides the number of likes of a post on the platform.
To make use of the Quiet Mode feature, on Facebook, you just need to open Settings > You Time > Manage. Then, you can schedule the mode for a period of time or just use it immediately. Once the mode is on, if you try to open the app, it will show how much longer you have to wait before Quiet Mode ends.
However, you also have the option to use the app for 15 minutes. Facebook is releasing this new feature worldwide but on iPhone only, for now. Meanwhile, the social giant is working on the Android version of this feature that’s set to come out next month.
