On Tuesday, Elon Musk said on Twitter that he used to want to sell Tesla – his automobile company to Apple, but CEO Tim Cook refused to attend the meeting.
Musk posted the Tweet after a rumor surfaced that the Cupertino tech giant planned to launch its first Apple Car in 2024. He said Tesla’s worth had increased ten-fold from when he first made the offer. The automaker has had a remarkable year with the meteoric stock price run making it the world’s most valuable carmaker. Back in 2017, Tesla was still losing its money fast as it had not yet reached today’s vehicle volume.
Musk said that the company was on the verge of collapsing in 2017 when he directed all of its resources to produce the Model 3 sedan. Fortunately, the company survived its darkest days and have since released new vehicles like the Cybertruck and the Model Y SUV.

The Cupertino tech giant has yet to respond to the matter.
In the last five years, Apple is believed to have been toying with the idea of an Apple Car. However, people were more convinced that the iPhone maker was only interested in developing software to sell to other companies. However, according to a report on Reuters made public earlier this week, what it is after is an autonomous car running on electricity for the mass market.
Among the various reason that has led to Apple’s change of heart, the most notable is the breakthrough regarding battery technology. As stated by Reuters, Apple is developing a lithium iron phosphate battery that takes less space inside the battery pack and yet provides more energy.

Musk said Tesla had already used the same kind of battery in some of its cars manufactured in China.
The last decade has seen Apple and Tesla swapping each other’s talents. In response to the rumor regarding Apple Car in 2015, Elon Musk made a joke that the Cupertino tech giant was Tesla’s graveyard.
Back then, he said making electric autonomous cars was the logical thing for Tim Cook to do. However, he also warned that making cars were more complex than smartwatches and phones.
