It’s safe to say that Apple Maps always try to keep up with Google Maps in providing map service for users. From a purely practical point of view, Apple has come a long way with Maps, but a number of reviewers still say Google’s service is better. During the Worldwide Developers Conference held annually in California on Monday, Apple introduced its revamped Maps app which is said to be more detailed.
Talking about more information about the app, Apple said it has added several new features to help users easily navigate to frequent places, such as work addresses or their homes. There’re 4 million miles were discovered to rebuild the maps in the app from the ground up. This did show how the world’s largest phone maker is trying to compete with rivals like Google Maps and Waze.
Besides, users can save their favorite places to a list, and Apple Maps will display it on the screen when they launch the app. You also can group some frequent places into a collection and add a photo to the list as well.
One of the other new features that should be noted is “Look Around”. The dedicated feature will give users a 3D view of the destination users searched for on the map.
Back in September 2012, Apple released its in-house mapping service instead of preloading Google Maps on iPhone and iPad devices. The main reason which forced Apple to self-develop their own app was the tensions between two tech giants at the time. However, Apple failed at it because the early version of Apple Maps came with problems in everything, even a simple search for an address or the navigation.
The updated Apple Maps will make its first launch in the US in late 2019. To experience this redesigned map service, Indian users may have to wait for it until next year.
