Microsoft veteran Anil Bhansali recently has been nominated as VP of Engineering in India. According to information from the tech giant, the Indian-origin executive will be tasked with all software development supports for Google Cloud India.
Before arriving at Google, Bhansali had worked for Microsoft for nearly 30 years, and his last role at the company was VP of Azure division, which also focuses on cloud services. In addition to this position, Bhansali used to lead Microsoft’s research and development plans in India and several engineering missions across different divisions at Microsoft.
Bhansali is the second top-level executive hired by Google while the company is facing a slew of competitors in the cloud market, including Microsoft’s Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Alibaba’s Alicloud.
The first one who joins Google Cloud – Karan Bajwa – is also an Indian-origin executive. He stepped down as a managing director at IBM India and South Asia to take a similar position at Google Cloud in March.
Google’s spokesperson Amit Zavery claims that Google Cloud India now expects to grow and scale up in size, and with the coming of Bhansali, the company is ready to expand and beef up its services all over the country.
As planned, the search giant will be establishing a second data center in Delhi next year, besides another in Mumbai. Google Cloud has counted a bunch of renowned companies as its anchor clients, including Wipro, Truecaller, Oyo Hotels, L&T Finance, IndiaMart, ICICI Prudential, and Hero Motocorp.
