Amazon is facing a backlash in India after the e-commerce site sells doormats and underwear with some Hindu sacred symbols printed on them.
When #BoycottAmazon becomes trending on Twitter, Amazon.com Inc made public a statement saying that all of such listings had been taken down:

However, Amazon’s act doesn’t seem to satisfy Indian netizens as screenshots of underwear and doormats with several Hindu insignia are still being shared online.

Gaurav Goel - BJP spokesperson said on Twitter that Amazon shouldn’t violate Section 295A which states that anyone maliciously and deliberately outrage religious feelings may face a punishment of up to three years.
Many other Indians expressed the same sentiments saying that the tech giant is demeaning Hinduism. However, many product listings on the e-commerce site are controlled by their sellers, not the company itself.
Previous uproars
This wasn’t the first time Amazon is under fire for outrage religious feelings. Back in 2017, the Indian government threatened to revoke visas of the company employees if it failed to remove listings of doormats with the Indian flag on its website in Canada.

Last year, Amazon US offered toilet seat covers with Hindu gods printed on them, causing a backlash in India.
