It's only been a couple months after the launch of the first Samsung Galaxy Watch Active before leaked images of a second version got onto the Internet.

Samsung is currently very deep into the smartwatch market. It has been barely a few months after the grand revelation of the Galaxy Watch Active, and the South Korean company has already had another project in work. Thanks to the work of some leakers, we have finally attained images of the new Galaxy Watch Active 2 and its familiar design.

Still A Familiar Design

A glance at the second generation Galaxy Watch Active did not reveal a lot of design changes in comparison to the original. Samsung’s rotating bezel that has almost become a signature for the company’s range of smartwatch does not make an appearance on the Galaxy Watch Active 2. It is still as compact as ever, with small 20mm band lugs, and the rounded front glass is there as well. But with a more in-depth look, you might notice some crucial differences.

Notably, in two details: The speaker grill to the left side of the watch and a power button painted red to the right. We still don’t know whether the red button is universal across all variants of the new watch or not as we have information that Samsung is introducing an LTE-capable option.

The red power button is an interesting new detail that could allude to an LTE-capable version.

Reportedly, aside from supporting LTE connection, it will also have a larger 340 mAh battery. Looking at the Apple Watch for clues, it might be Samsung’s play on the red dot to indicate the watch being an LTE model.

Better Heart Rate Sensors And New Sizings

Better yet for all of the health-conscious users, it seems like Samsung is boosting the efficiency of the heart rate sensor on this one. On the back of the watch is a full circle of sensors drastically different from that of the first Galaxy Watch Active.

There is a full circle of sensors at the back of the new watch instead of the four-point design of the older one

We still don’t know how efficient the new sensor design will make the new watch in term of actual heart sensing. But it’s safe to guess that it would be an improvement over the older generation.

These notable changes aside, the source also indicated that the new smartwatch’s screen will be protected with a layer of strengthened Gorilla Glass DX and will come in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm. Both sizes are step-ups from the original’s 38mm one. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be shipped with OneUI 1.5 out of the box.

An Extremely Early Launch

Overall, it is a substantial upgrade to an affordable smartwatch. However, it is a little bit puzzling to see Samsung on the verge of releasing yet another spin of the original Galaxy Watch Active so early in its life cycle.
