Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been forced to stay where we are. And we do miss traveling, no matter it is for work or vacation. And while flying, it is a great pleasure if we can surf the internet and upload images instantly from our smartphone without having to wait until landing.
TOI reports that Indian carrier Vistara has become the country’s first airline to offer its passengers free in-flight WiFi. Passengers who travel on the airline's new Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the Delhi-London route can access internet connectivity.
Passengers, regardless of their classes, from the economy, to premium economy, or business class, can use the internet for free, for a limited period of time. The airline hasn’t set fix tariff rates for this new service. Vistara has revealed that it planned to bring similar service to its budget short-haul flights on the A320 Neo too.
At the moment, passengers traveling with international aircraft carriers have to pay around $3 to $6, depending on the flight duration, to be able to use services like Facebook, iMessage, Line, WhatsApp for an unlimited duration. Meanwhile, for full WiFi access, they are charged $10 to $20.
Just recently, India permitted airlines to offer Wi-Fi on their flights in the country. Only a selected number of global airlines have been providing this service. Originally, Air India also planned to introduce WiFi service on its flights in India. However, the idea was put on hold because of the unavailability of funds.
