The U.K health minister Nadine Dorries has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in self-isolation. As the pandemic spreads further in England on Tuesday, she is the first PM in the country to catch the virus.
So far, the U.K has had 382 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with six patients died of it.
Ms. Dorries is the person in charge of the safety of patients and she said that once she was sure that she had the virus, she had taken all of the needed precautions. The PHE (Public Health England) has been tracing all of the people has had contacted, and her parliamentary office is now close.
Ms. Dorries said in a tweet that she hoped she had gone through the worst of it. However, her 84-year-old mother who is living with her has shown some symptoms. She will be tested today.
A spokesperson of DHSC (Department of Health and Social Care) said that the health minister first showed symptoms when she attended a special event to celebrate the International Women Day.
The spokesperson also said that the 62-year-old Ms Dorries has been in self-isolation since Friday.
A credible source said that all PMs and officials would continue going to work unless told otherwise. According to CMO (short for Chief Medical Officer), no one needs to be tested or isolated until they are asked by PHE contact tracers.
After Ms. Dorries is tested positive, there seems to be no plan to suspend Parliament to stop COVID-19 from spreading.
The heath minister has voted twice last week, meaning she has had close contact with several other PMs. This raise the question of whether the Department of Heath team has contracted COVID-19.
