Recently, Uber has partnered with Big Basket to ensure the delivery of essential products for people during the India lockdown. And now, the ride-hailing company has partnered with Flipkart in helping deliver essential products by using its fleet of bikes and cars in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. Uber announced the partnership in a blog post, which is its third business-to-business partnership in the past week, after Spencer’s Retail and Big Basket.

Uber hasn’t said anything officially but its partnership with Flipkart will likely expand to other cities in India. The company’s director – operations, and head of the India & South Asia branch said in a blog post that the deals are meant to help people stay inside so as to support the government in containing the disease.
The firm added that it will not charge any commission for this service and the money earned in such deliveries will go to the drivers.
Similar to previous deliveries in the partnership with Big Basker, this time, Uber will also act in compliance with the government’s guidelines. Drivers working in the service will keep the highest hygiene and safety standards, the company’s blog says.
As of now, SARS-CoV-2 has spread to over 200 countries across the globe, infecting over 1.3 million people and killed more than 74,000 people worldwide. In terms of India, there have been more than 4,800 people infected with the virus while the death toll has gone up to 136. With concerns over the quick spread of the pandemic, the Indian government imposed a full lockdown on the entire country starting late last month that effectively requires everyone to stay inside.
