Drunken driving has led to many traffic accidents. Since it isn’t enough to only spread awareness, technology has been used as another solution. To deal with drunken driving, the Indian Army has built a new system.
Captain Onkar Kale and his team have developed a new safety system to be installed on the Indian Army trucks. The system will make it impossible for drivers to drink and drive. If the Integrated Vehicle Safety System detects that the driver has drunk alcohol or hasn’t put on the seat belt, he won’t be able to start the truck.
Naturally, the system’s purpose is to discourage drivers from driving under influence and prevent road accidents from happening. A recent post on ANI’s Twitter account shows two officers demonstrating the working mechanism of the newly developed technology. If this was proved to be a viable solution, it could become a concrete measure to deal with drunk driving, especially for officers of the Indian Army.
Nothing much has been revealed about how exactly the system works. Devices like this have already been used in other countries around the world. Called Ignition Interlocks, the devices have been adopted in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, Austria, and many more.
Another technology of the same purpose is also being developed. Driver The one behind the initiative, Alcohol Detection System for Safety is a research organization funded by the government.
Some car manufacturers are also working on this technology to be installed on their vehicles. In 2011, Nissan Motor Corporation developed its concept car for drunk-driving prevention. Once started, the car’s odor sensors and facial monitoring system will check on the driver for drunk-driving behaviors and will act accordingly to the situation.
The point is there are now many technologies that could be used to prevent a drunk driver from getting behind the steering wheel. However, these methods haven’t come to the Indian market yet. Since the Indian Army has already been working on a similar system, there is a high chance that it will soon eventually make it to the commercial market.
Besides this new system, there are many Indian Army weapons that have been developed over the past few years. Here are some of the country's most powerful weapons.
