Recently, a steel production company from China has made international headlines for gifting its employees 4,116 brand new cars for surpassing profit targets for the 5th consecutive year.
On the first day of October, Jiangxi West Dajiu Iron & Steel Corporation held an event to celebrate its success as well as rewarding its employees for their contribution. For the past five years, the company has had increasing profits. And so the management wanted to thank the staff by offering each of them a car. 4,116 new vehicles including 2,933 Jiangling Ford Territory and 1,183 FAW-Volkswagen Magotan were given to the staff in batches weeks before the National Day holiday.
According to Sohu, a Chinese news outlet, the value of these cars is about 500 million yuan or $74 million. However, the Jianxi company announced that it would pay for the production of these vehicles’ license plates, five-year auto insurance, and vehicle taxes.
Drone footage showing a few hundred cars lined up in empty space has become viral on Chinese social media. Reactions from internet users have been mixed. While some praising the company for valuing its employees’ efforts, some trying to look for things to complain about.
Some users said that the company could have simply given its employees checks so they could purchase the cars they like. However, car manufacturers had probably given the company a great deal. So by buying these cars, the company could save some money while still giving millions away.
