COVID-19: “Kissing Contest” Organized To Celebrate Factory’s Reopening And "Lift The Spirits"

According to the factory's owner, the contest was meant to celebrate the factory's reopening and lift the employees’ spirits after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Ever since the Chinese authorities decided to lift the lockdown orders, businesses and factories have been reopened. Viral photos and videos of tourist destination crowded with people make people wonder if social distancing should be forgotten that quickly.

Tourist destinations are crowded with people.

And now, a video and some images show how a Chinese factory takes things to a whole new level to celebrate its reopening. For the celebration, a “kissing contest” was held. And in this contest, participants who are the factory employees kissed each other form two sides of a Plexiglas barrier.

A report indicates that the contest is from a furniture factory called “Yueya.” 10 couples were invited to take part in the contest that was meant to lift the employees’ spirits after the pandemic. Some of them are married couples.

In the video, the staff can be seen standing on two sides of a transparent plastic board. The event was held in the factory’s location in Suzhou, in Eastern China.

Mr. Ma, the factory’s owner, said that the plastic board was used to lower the chance of infection. But given that they didn’t follow the social-distancing advice, there a lot to worry about. While the couples exchanged kisses, other employees were gathering around and cheering.

Even after China lifted the lockdown and things have gone back to normal, the country has been experiencing a steady rise in new COVID-19 cases again. And events like these might throw away the country’s efforts in containing the spread of the virus.
