After WHO announced that besides washing your hands with soap and water, using a hand sanitizer is another effective way to maintain personal hygiene, people have been flocking to stores to hoard on this product. As a result, there was an exponential rise in prices and some places have even run out of hand sanitizers.
And to put a stop to this unnecessary panic-buying and hoarding and to ensure that everyone can get their hands on hand sanitizers at decent prices, a genius solution has been brought forward by a supermarket in Denmark.
This pricing trick of the Rotunden supermarket to prevent shoppers from hoarding actually works.
At the supermarket, one bottle of hand sanitizer costs 40 DKK or RS 438. However, if someone decides to get two bottles, they will have to pay 1000 DKK or Rs 10,955.
Rotunden is putting its efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and the panic surrounding it. Bored Panda translated one of the supermarket’s signboards, and it reads:
This is such a clever idea. By doing this, it is ensured that everyone can buy at least one bottle of hand sanitizer. No one will have a chance to hoard while the store won’t run out of supplies.
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, to avoid infection, public health experts advise people to clean their hands with water and soap or an alcohol-based solution for at least 20 seconds. People are searching for hand sanitizers because of their convenience when water and soap aren’t available. Head of Department of Chemistry at IIT Delhi, Prof. Anil J Elias, said that alcohol rub sanitizers needed to contain at least 70% alcohol to kill microorganisms after 30 seconds to one minute.
The outbreak first started out in Wuhan, China and since then, it has spread to over 160 countries around the world. More than 381,000 cases have been recorded with over 16,000 deaths.
