COVID-19: Fake Hand Sanitizer Manufacturing Company Busted Near Gurugram

Amid COVID-19 outbreak, the Food and Drug Administration has just busted a fake hand sanitizer manufacturing unit in Harayana.

The COVID-19 outbreak has led to some unimaginable situations. While there are some people disguised themselves as fake doctors to scam people, others are making fake sanitizers to earn a few bucks.

The Food and Drug Administration has just busted a fake hand sanitizer manufacturing unit in Harayana. At least 5,000 bottles of fake hand sanitizers were seized.

The so-called sanitizers could be found on the market under the name Viro-rub. At the manufacturing unit, authorities also confiscated about 1,000 liters of isopropyl alcohol used to make the fake sanitizers.

The manufacturing company was discovered during a crisis when people are stocking sanitizers and face masks due to the fear of Covid-19. Big e-commerces are struggling to meet the growing demand that has never been seen before.

Ripan Mehta, a drug controller office said that originally, the company manufactured industrial oils and had just shifted to manufacturing hand sanitizers around 10 days ago. All workers here did was filling the buckets with isopropyl alcohol and pour the liquid in hand sanitizer bottles.

Another fake sanitizer manufacturing company was also busted in Mumbai. These sanitizers are don’t have the required anti-bacterial particles that made them disinfectant. One bottle was sold from Rs 105 to Rs 180.

The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends that people should buy sanitizers containing 60 to 80% alcohol. If you can’t find hand sanitizers at supermarkets around your place, you can make them at home. WHO also advises washing your hands with water and soap.
