You might not believe it but reporter Leander Kahney has actually washed his iPhone with soap and water. At first, he was worried that he might have made a mistake. But up until now, everything is still fine, his iPhone is still working normally. His iPhone 11 Pro Max seems to have a high water-resistant ability.
According to Kahney, during the COVID-19 outbreak, it is important to clean your smartphone as well. Since the epidemic broke out, he has started washing his hands carefully before he leaves the house and after he comes back from his work. But he realized that, even if he washed his hands for 20 to 30 seconds, they could get dirty again when holding his iPhone.
Experts recommend people wash their hands with soap for 20 to 30 seconds to kill all the germs, including the COVID-19 virus. The virus is coated with lipid which can easily be broken down by regular soap, resulting in the virus also dying.
In San Francisco where Kahney lives, the COVID-19 virus is spreading through community transmission as a cruise ship full of infected people allowed to enter the port close to San Francisco.
Many conferences have been canceled and schools are being closed, which makes everyone nervous. People are becoming panic. Even though health experts say that the likelihood of being infected is still quite low, the reporter keeps wondering what will happen if you and your family become infected.
So, besides washing his hands, Kahney has decided that he would also wash his smartphone.
Hospital Infection magazine stated that Coronavirus can survive on surfaces like plastic, glass, or metal for up to 9 days. This virus can easily be killed using disinfectant wipes. But Apple warns that strong disinfectant should not be used as it could damage the oleophobic coating of iPhones.
Apple suggests that its customers can use a cloth soaked in soapy water. But Kahney went even further.
Every iPhone starting from the iPhone 7/7Plus has IP67 water-resistance, which means they can withstand splashes or go underwater 0.9 meters in 30 minutes maximum.
iPhone XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max all have IP68 water resistance, which means they can go 1.8 meters underwater in 30 minutes.
