Why It’s Unsafe For PM Modi To Look At Solar Eclipse Wearing Only His Sunglasses

If you take a look at the picture from PM Modi, you can see that he only wears his sunglasses while looking at the eclipse.

On December 26, 2019, India witnessed the last solar eclipse of this year and decade. It was a beautiful annular solar eclipse.

People around the country were looking forward to watching the eclipse, including PM Narendra Modi.

He posted on his Twitter account his experience when he, like millions of people around the world, tried to look at the eclipse. However, it seemed like he didn’t take the needed safety precaution.

If you take a look at the picture from PM Modi, you can see that he only wears his sunglasses while looking at the eclipse. In his left hand, he was holding a pair of eclipse-certified glasses.

For your information, if you look at the solar eclipse without using any safety measure can be extremely harmful and will eventually cause vision issues. During an eclipse, the UV radiation of the sun is at its peak and can easily burn our eyes’ retinas. This will lead to permanent damage or worse, blindness. The damage can happen even when you look at the eclipse for only a few seconds.

If you take a look at the picture from PM Modi, you can see that he only wears his sunglasses while looking at the eclipse.

In the official guidelines of NASA, it is stated that in order to watch a solar eclipse, you need to wear solar glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

If there are scratches on your glasses, those can’t be used. Normal sunglasses even when polarised aren’t suitable to use during an eclipse.

While we can’t leave out the fact that PM Modi could have been wearing specifically designed sunglasses, he did have a pair of solar-eclipse glassed with him but didn’t use it. This sets a bad example for the citizens who he inspires.

People would look at an image like this, thinking that it would be safe to watch a solar eclipse, wearing only a pair of regular sunglasses.
