People Arrested For Dancing, Taking Videos, Causing Traffic Jams Inside Atal Tunnel

Since its inauguration back in October this year, Atal Tunnel has become a tourist attraction.

Recently, the Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested seven people who were on a road trip to visit Kullu-Manali. The group stopped in the middle of the tunnel that is in Rohtang, parked their cars to take pictures.

Not only that, they were singing, dancing, and recording videos as well. Numerous clips of the group have gone viral on the internet, helping the police to track and arrest them.

Previously, the police also arrested 15 people and two vehicles for causing traffic jams inside the tunnel, violating COVID-19 regulations.

Under the HP Police Act, the Himachal Pradesh police have fined eight of them Rs 40,000, according to the Kullu District’s Police Superintendent, Gaurav Singh.

More than 30 drivers overtaking the queue also received fines for affecting traffic movement.

These people were arrested on a day when the Atal Tunnel saw a record number of 5,450 vehicles, 2,650 vehicles leaving towards Manali, and 2,800 entering the valley. For December, the average influx daily has been about 1,500 vehicles.

Atal Tunnel is the world’s longest tunnel that is above 10,000 feet. It is named after India’s Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The all-weather tunnel covers 9.02km, connecting Manali and Lahaul-Spiti.
