Mumbai-Based 65-Year-Old Retired Uncle Got Scammed Rs 46 Lakh By Fake Dating Site

A 65-year-old man from Mumbai has been allegedly duped of Rs 46 lakh by unidentified persons running a website that promised him young dates.

We are living in a time where a press of a button can bring almost everything. However, there are two sides to everything as convenience also comes with online scammers. With the quick rise of online dating, people choose to find their matches online. But these online dating sites are sometimes fake. And it is a better idea to think carefully before spending a whole lot of money on it. However, things turned awry for this 65-year-old man from Mumbai. The man has reportedly been scammed Rs 46 lakh by anonymous running a fake dating site which promised to get him young dates.

The victim, who is a resident from the suburban Malad, had come to the Kurar police station to file a cheating complaint back in January this year. The man, who’s already married, had gone to the fake dating site and registered in May 2018 to find young women.

Midday reported that the man paid a privacy fee of Rs 82,500, a video insurance of Rs 1.75 lakh, a yearly contract of Rs 2.85 lakh and profile verification of Rs 5.50 lakh.

On May 7, the man received a call from Meera and was asked to pay for a premium membership which cost Rs 26.50 and Rs 50,000 for extra charges. After he paid the money, he got the girl names Rosy’s contact number. He was then requested to pay holding charges of Rs 7.85 lakh.

In his complaint, the victim said he got scammed Rs 46 lakh. All his attempts trying to contact those who operate the website but were useless.

Kurar police station’s senior inspector Uday Rajeshirke said that after examining the complaint, a case had been registered against anonymous people and an investigation has been carried out.
