Some people pay with their lives just to get the most perfect shot of selfie. Now, in its effort to warn people not to risk their lives just to look cool, the Mumbai Police has posted a video on its Twitter account. In the video, a boy can be seen going to a high-rise building’s terrace, standing at the edge to take a selfie and falling down.
While the Mumbai Police has not shared any further details of the accident, the video is a warning to its citizens, not to be so irresponsible with their lives.
Reports suggest that in India, since 2011, there have been 120 selfie-related deaths, which is the highest in the world. While people try their best to get the perfect selfie, they have been involved in different types of accidents, from cars, trains, falling from buildings or cliffs to drowning.
Just recently, a 27-year-old guy died of burns after he accidentally touched an overhead wire while taking a selfie on top of parked trains in Jamshedpur.
Last year, to help decrease the number of selfie-related injuries and deaths, IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Ropar has made an AI-powered app which gives analyze of users’ surrounding environment and alerts if there is any danger. The app called Garuda was developed by Assistant Professor Abhinav Dhall and his two students Harsh Vardhan Dogra and Jitender Singh.
We also reported on a case of a group of friends got into a train accident while taking selfies at a railway track at the Panipat city. Three out of four people were killed, two of them were 19 years old while one was 18.
