More Than Half Of 451 Million Indian Internet Users Are Male

About 67% of India's 451 million monthly active Internet users are male, according to a report brought out by the Internet and Mobile Association of India.

A recent survey from the Internet and Mobile Association of India recently carried out a survey suggests that most of the Indian monthly active users on the Internet are male. With 451 million people joined the survey, the percentage of male Internet users is 67%.

For Internet users, China takes the top spot while India is in second place. However, according to a report called “India Internet 2019”, Internet penetration in India is only 36%, leaving a massive space for growth.

The number of male Internet users outweighs the number of female Internet users.

The report also illustrates that rural areas have a higher gender gap than urban areas. Specifically, while 62% of Internet users in urban regions are male, the figure in rural regions is 10% higher.

As stated in the report, the number of female online users is higher in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

In 451 million active users every month, 66 million are in the age of 5 to 11. They use devices of other members in the family to access the Internet. The other users are more than 12 years old.

The location that has the biggest Internet penetration at the state level is the National Capital Region of Delhi followed by Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Kerala.

Mumbai has the highest number of Internet users in India, along with Delhi. While Delhi has 11.2 million users, Mumbai has 11.7 million.

Kolkata and Bengaluru take third place with both having 6.1 million monthly active users. Chennai follows along with the number of online users being 5.4 million.

About 109 million people in rural areas are using the Internet daily, which represents 47% in total.

On the contrary, approximately 139 million urban inhabitants access the Internet every day, representing 57%.

Nine out of ten urban people connect to the Internet more than once every week. Whilst, the users that are from 16 to 29 years old use the Internet most frequently.

Nevertheless, some people rarely access to the Internet, less than once every week. About one out of five Internet users in rural regions are in this category.

Approximately one-third of rural users spend from 15 to 30 minutes surfing the Internet whereas the urban inhabitants spend over an hour.

Soon the number of people in rural areas spending more time on the Internet will increase thanks to better service quality, affordable mobile Internet, and stronger connectivity.

About 67% of Indian Internet users, according to the research, are from 12 to 29 years old.

Using the Internet at home is still widespread across rural and urban regions. But it seems like mobile devices are making their ways into consumers’ daily life since one-third of the Indian population in urban areas is connecting to the Internet while commuting.
