After Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, Kerala is the latest state in India to announce that it would offer its people free COVID-19 vaccines.

According to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, people in Kerala will get the COVID-19 vaccines for free. On Tuesday, the Centre said that three COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer, Serum Institute of India, and Bharat Biotech were being considered by India’s drug regulator for early licensure. In India, there are five vaccine candidates that are still under trial.

Vijayan added that the quantity of the vaccine that the Centre would allot to the state had yet to be revealed. He said that it was a good sign that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was decreasing.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India won’t have to wait for the COVID-19 vaccine for long. He also added that the vaccines would be given to preferred groups as soon as they are ready.

The matter was addressed during an all-party meeting. He stated that healthcare and frontline workers, old people, and those susceptible to other diseases would be the first to receive the vaccine. As soon as the country's regulators approve the vaccines, the administering process will begin.

PM Modi also mentioned the vaccine’s availability and distribution, saying that India had one of the best vaccination networks that would be useful for vaccine distribution. The Prime Minister recommended that the people of India could keep track of the COVID-19 vaccine’s development through the official CoWin-20 app.
