Russian officials had warned that citizens, after receiving the Sputnik V vaccine, should refrain from drinking alcohol for two months.

Ever since our world has been turned upside down because of the COVID-19, we have been waiting desperately for a vaccine that can tackle the novel coronavirus.

But this dark time almost comes to an end as the UK and many other countries like China and Russia have begun their mass vaccination programs to protect their citizens against the virus.

Russian news agency TASS reported that Russian officials had warned that citizens, after receiving the Sputnik V vaccine, should refrain from drinking alcohol for two months. The warning is from Tatiana Golikova, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister as he issued precautions and guidelines for people to stay safe and wait until the vaccine is active, which can take about 42 days.

Russian citizens are advised to wear face masks, minimize contacts, and use sanitizers. They also shouldn’t visit crowded places, take immunosuppressant drugs, or drink alcohol.

This is surely a piece of shocking news, especially for Russian people as they are known to be the world’s fourth-largest alcohol drinkers, according to the WHO.

Sputnik V has received approval for use since August. And by now, the vaccine has been given to more than 100,000 high-risk people, as stated by Health Minister Mikhail Murashko during his speech to the United Nations about the vaccine earlier this week.

The next plan of Russia is to vaccinate doctors and teachers with the Sputnik V vaccine they belong to the group with the highest risk of exposure. By the end of this year, the country aims to vaccinate 2 million people.
