Hotel-Standard CO.VID-19 Mobile Clinics From Old Buses Expect To Be The Savior For India's Remote Areas

As the CO.VID-19 pandemic shows no sign of stopping in India, the government is repurposing all kinds of vehicles into temporary health infrastructure to accommodate patients of the pandemic.

The first options are stadiums and train coaches being turned into facilities for quarantine. Now when the supply of coaches runs short, the government turns to buses and converts them into disinfection corridors.

As shortage still persists, the KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) has offered its fleet to serve as mobile fever clinics. The KSRTC’s Mysuru division said the facilities would be used to diagnose people who show symptoms of influenza.

The converted buses will come equipped with medical facilities for Co.ro.na.vi.rus identification and containment.

The mobile clinics are expected to be the ideal solution for remote areas where the current health care infrastructure is unable to keep up with the spread of the novel CO.VID-19 pandemic.

Take the Mosambayanahalli as an example. When a villager is confirmed to have the Co.ro.na.vi.rus, it is advisable to test other people in the same village bring them to the nearest healthcare center is next to impossible as the distance is quite large.

So if we cannot cart the villagers, we must bring testing facility to them. This is where the mobile fever clinics kick in.

Each of these refitted vehicles will be divided into two compartments. One for a nurse and a doctor, the other has a washbasin, a bed, a chamber for doctor, and a hand wash for testing.

Another good use for old buses that the KSRTC came up with is to turn them into mobile vegetable vendors to cater to the needs of Co.ro.na.vi.rus containment zones, where the government has taken the responsibility to supply foods for citizens.

According to Shivayogi C Kalasad, managing director of KSRTC, they are refitting 50 buses. The roofs of the old ones will be removed during the conversing process. Once done, the fleet will supply foods in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and some other containment zones.
