In Iran, the COVID-19 outbreak has infected over 11,000 people and killed 514. The authorities are building burial pits for COVID victims. And these pits are so large that we can even see them from space.

Along with China, Italy, South Korea, Iran has been hit hard by the epidemic. Lawmakers and senior officials have been infected including Eshaq Jahangiri, the Iranian Vice President. An adviser of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also died from the virus.

Iran has asked for an emergency funding of $5 billion from the International Monetary Fund in the battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Media reports have accused the Iranian government of not being forthcoming about the country’s death toll and masking the outbreak’s devastating scale.

And the expansion of mass graves further underscores why people are feeling skeptical about the official death toll.

The images suggest that the workers are hurriedly digging the graves, depicting the outbreak’s scale in the country.

People use lime in mass graves to reduce the odor and slow the decay. Iranian authorities have already said that they are using lime for COVID-19 victims’ burials.
