Indian Railways Introduces New Double-Decker Train Coach

On November 18, the Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala launched a semi high-speed double-decker train with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The Indian Railways is ready to transform trains using technology with its new double-decker train coach with a modern air spring suspension system. On November 18, the Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala launched a semi high-speed double-decker train with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

In India, the Rail Coach Factory is the one and only company that is in charge of manufacturing double-decker coaches operated by the Indian Railways.

The new double-decker train has the most state-of-the-art design and amenities with 120 seats. According to RCF, the upper deck can accommodate 50 passengers while the lower deck can seat 48 passengers. For the middle deck, there are 16 seats on one side and the other has six.

There are automatic sliding doors for entry to the area of passengers. In each coach, there is a mini pantry to store and serve refreshments (hot and cold) to passengers.

The width of the aisle has been optimized so that travelers can have a comfortable journey. Other passenger-centric features include plush interiors, charging sockets for mobiles and laptops, overhead luggage rack, LED destination board, and GPS-based information system.

Once these coaches the Research Design and Standards Organization’s approval, it will be used for the busiest routes.

In the 1990s, the RCF manufactured the first batch of double-decker coaches that were non-AC. The first double-decker coach with AC with a maximum speed of 130 kilometers per hour was launched in March 2010.
