Recently, Shankar Kurhade, an Indian businessman, decided to spend $4,000 on a solid gold face mask to protect himself against COVID-19.
The 49-year-old businessman from Pune, Western India said that his special face mask weight around 60gr. It took jewelers 8 days to make the mask.
He added that this face mask was quite small and had small air holes so that he could breathe easily. Kurhade admitted that he wasn’t sure if the mask would be effective in protecting him from the novel coronavirus. So he has been taking a combination of some other precautions.
The businessman revealed that whenever he went out, he liked to wear gold jewelry weighing up to 1kg including a bracelet, necklace, and ring on each finger of his right hand.
He came up with the idea of a gold mask after reading about a man wearing a silver mask on the internet.
After receiving the “fancy” face mask and starting to wearing it, Kurhade received many offers from people around him to take photos with him. People were surprised that he would wear a solid gold mask to a crowded place like the market.
Because of the COVID-19, India has issued a regulation that requires people to wear face masks in public places to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
India sees a drastic spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. The country has surpassed Russia to be the third most-affected country.
