The tensions peaked yesterday when the Indian government announce a ban on several Chinese smartphone apps, including the popular TikTok.

According to a government’s press release, 59 Chinese apps have been banned, citing reason that lots of complaints from citizens have been sent to India's Computer Emergency Response Team regarding privacy and security issues. However, no evidence was presented showing these apps spy on Indian users and sent information to the Chinese government.

Among the newly banned apps, Weibo and TikTok are arguably the ones with the largest number of users.

There are also lots of system-level apps from several different manufacturers, including Mi Video Call and Mi Community of Xiaomi. The list also features Clean Master of Cheetah Mobile.

So far, Google has issued no official announcement regarding how it plans to execute this ban as at the moment, these apps are still on its Play Store.
