India’s First Electric Tractor For Efficient And Environment-Friendly Farming

Hyderabad-based startup Cellestial E-Mobility has unveiled the first electric tractor of the country that comes with many modern features.

After cars, bikes, and scooters, electric mobility has now ventured into the agricultural sector. Hyderabad-based startup Cellestial E-Mobility has unveiled the first electric tractor of the country. Besides being an environment-friendly EV, the tractor also comes with modern features.

Cellestial E-Mobility is an EV manufacturer focusing on goods, passenger, agricultural, and haulage vehicles for airports. Start operating since 2019, the startup has successfully raised $2,00,000 investment from an angel investor in Singapore.

And now, the company’s goal is to raise another $6 to $8 million within the next six months. The prototype of the first electric tractor has been showcased by the company. And according to Cellestial E-Mobility, its electric tractor can outshine diesel-engine counterparts in many ways.

Siddhartha Durairajan, the co-founder of the company said that the 6HP electric tractor is equal to a 21 HP diesel-powered tractor. On a single charge, the electric tractor can cover a maximum range of 75 km, produce up to 18HP of power and 53Nm of peak torque.

The Cellestial E-Mobility electric tractor can be charged using a power socket. The batteries of the vehicle are swappable. So, charging isn’t going to be a problem for users. Other features of the electric tractor include regenerative brakes, fast charging, and power inversion.

What’s the company is planning to do is to commercialize the electric tractor within the next 3 to 6 months. With the working prototype, in the next 3 years, the company can produce around 3,000 electric tractors. The price is expected to be lower than Rs 5 lakh.

Moreover, the co-founders have made a promise to work on adequate charging infrastructure. They plan on setting e-hut stations and community charging places at gram panchayats. By doing this, it will help generate employment opportunities as well as boosting the logistics sector.

The tractor’s operating cost is also mentioned. Durairajan claims that it is about Rs 20 to Rs 35 for one hour, which compared to the diesel tractors, is a considerable drop.
