Can't Attend Graduation Ceremony Because Of COVID-19? Robots Are Here To Help

With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing every day, many schools have allowed students to stay at home to ensure their safety and contain the spread of the virus. Most schools have switched to online learning. Students can now take exam or even receive graduation certificates online.

In many countries around the world, graduation time often fells on March. Unfortunately, this year, with the COVID-19 outbreak, many schools have had to inform students about the cancellation of the graduation ceremony.

Meanwhile, some countries still try to give students an experience of receiving the graduation certificates. And the unique graduation ceremony of BBT University is the prime example.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university had decided to held an online graduation ceremony for students.

The professors still carried on every part of a traditional ceremony. However, “newme” robots would receive the graduation certificates on behalf of the students.

The newme robots are products of ANA Holdings. It had a display screen showing the faces of the graduates. It also had arms to receiv the certificates.

Just like how students attend graduation ceremony, the robots wore graduation gowns and caps.

The other graduates who participated in the ceremony joined via Zoom. And they said graduation sentiments via real-time comments.

Technology has proved its usefulness amid the pandemic, bridging the gap between social distancing, COVID-19 and social functions.
