DMRC or Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is trying to provide its user with better last-mile connectivity. Its first move was setting up a bicycle sharing system at select stations. Now, in a partnership with Yulu, DMRC is offering commuters electric bikes at nine of its metro stations.
The confirmation came after the Bengaluru-based startup specializing in ride-sharing using electric bikes announced that it had started operating in Delhi. For Yulu, this isn’t the first time that it has taken part in such operations. Before Delhi, it has already operated in cities such as Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai.
According to the partnership pact, Yulu has deployed 250 Yulu Miracle electric bikes in different locations in Delhi. The e-bike has a maximum speed of 25 kmph. On a single charge, it can have a travel range of 60 km.
At the moment, users can only access Yulu services at 40 Yulu zones at nine metro stations on both Blue and Yello metro lines. Its goal is to increase the number of e-bikes to about 5,000 in Delhi-NCR by the end of 2019. And in the second half of 2020, Amit Gupta, Yulu co-founder, wants the number to reach 25,000 e-bikes.
It’s worth noting that because the e-bikes’ top speed has been limited, drivers won’t have to own a driving license to use them. For those who want to use the e-bikes, they only have to install the Yulu app and complete and registration process.
After they are logged in, they can come to the nearest Yulu zone, use a QR code which is one the app to unlock an e-bike.
