While the Assembly election is going nearer, the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has announced women in this city would be allowed to take bus and metro rides for free. Accordingly, the Transport Minister of Delhi Kailash Gahlot had a meeting with senior officials from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (also known as DMRC) and required them to file a corresponding proposal.

The project will be estimated at Rs 700 crore. According to Arvind Kejriwal,

On June 04, at a press conference which took place in Delhi, the Delhi government announced the plan for free bus and metro rides for women and said that they will pay all of the expenses.
The Delhi Chief Minister further said,

He also added that subsidy wouldn’t be compulsory, and this scheme for free rides is voluntary.
In other words, women that can pay for these transportation modes can purchase tickets on their own. And as such, others who really need the subsidy can gain basic benefits.

Arvind Kejriwal stated that

The reports also showed that there are about 30 lakh daily commuters on the Daily Metro. The Delhi government will have to face a lot of difficulties in calculating the revenue loss in reality. Moreover, in the National Capital, the number of bus commuters is bigger than that of the commuters who travel on the Delhi Metro. Until now, the number of commuters by bus hits about 42 lakh.
This move of the Delhi government has come under fire from a series of users on social media.
