Administrating CPR On Women Becomes Easier With These Dummy Breasts

The idea behind the Womanikin is to eliminate bias in CPR training and provide people with proper training on how to administrate CPR on women.

If someone suffers from cardiac arrest, they can be saved by Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). However, data suggests that compared to men, women going into cardiac distress in public places are 27% less likely to receive the procedure. The reason is absurd. It is simply because women have breasts.

As stated in a recent study which was published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, it is not that people don't care whether a woman suffering a heart attack or not. The real issue here is that they haven't figured out how to place their hands without looking like a molester.

Womanikin can be put on those commonly-used mannequins to teach people how to carry out CPR on women.

So, Joan Creative, a start-up from New York, has come up with the Womanikin. Basically, it is an attachment used for mannequins in CPR training. The equipment can be put on those commonly-used mannequins to teach people how to carry out the emergency procedure on women.

The movement’s idea is to get rid of the CPR training’s bias. Due to the uncomfortable issue, it is avoided to provide people with CPR training on women. To administrate CPR correctly, it is important that you put your hand’s heel 2 inches above the breastbone’s end before bumping. The instructions of Womanikin read:

Capture

In order to raise people’s awareness about the number of women suffering from heart disease every year, the startup is looking for donations. Nonetheless, the Womanikin is provided for free. The resources for design have been uploaded; therefore, you can either make the Womanikin yourself or have someone do it.

Thus, if you have a chance of administering CPR to women next time, just recall the training and think about saving their life rather than worrying about the inappropriate touch.
