As travel restriction started taking effect amid COVID-19, private jet operators are having a hard time running their business, so much so that they have to turn down clients with a deep pocket.

According to Kanika Tekriwal, the founder of JetSetGo - a private jet company, the number of inquiries about private flights to other countries have increased nine-fold as wealthy people are trying to escape the hot spots of COVID-19.

She said that one of the Indian tycoons booked a flight for his family and himself from London back to New Delhi, but 30 minutes before the jet took off, a travel suspension at one of the stopovers came into effect and everyone got stuck in London.

On Monday, India made public a ban on flights departing from the U.K and Europe, stripping away the tycoon’s last hope to come back to his home country safely.

On Tuesday, India added the Philippines and Malaysia to the list of banned countries.

The COVID-19 outbreak has created a situation that can push many airlines to bankruptcy by May, corroding to the CAPA Centre for Aviation in Australia. Even private jet operators cannot escape this fate as governments impose strict rules on entry and quarantine.

Kanika Tekriwal’s JetSetGo is operating 28 private jets and she said the number of inquiries about one-way flights back home is increasing fast. However, this is not a good sign for the company as 87% of its flights have been cancelled due to COVID-19 outbreak.
