Robots are playing an important role in helping people maintaining social distancing and containing the spread of COVID-19. In Bulandshahr, robots have been used to distribute food and medicines to patients at hospitals and dispense sanitizer at the district collectorate.
A bright red robot fitted with sensors stands at the collectorate can detect if a human comes near, thus dispensing sanitizer.

Ravindra Kumar, Bulandshahr’s District Magistrate, said that a robot which was actually made by local engineering students were placed at the collectorate’s COVID-19 control room. The robot would give sanitizers to visitors and employees, avoiding direct contact between humans.
A similar robot is used in the district’s COVID-19 hospital to give bring medicines, water, and food to patients to avoid close contact between positive cases and healthcare workers.
The walking robot can work continuously for 1.5 hours before it needs to be recharged. At the moment, Bulandshahr has two robots but it has plans on deploying more. These robots not only can assist doctors and staff but also prevent infections.
The robots are products of local techies Atul Kumar and Nishant Sharma who are taking engineering courses at different private institutes in Noida.

According to Sharma, it took them over a month to make this robot. Called Delta 3.0, the robot has sensors. When it detects a human, it will pour sanitizer into the hand of that person.
The robot is also equipped with a speaker and display through which it displays any fed message or slogans and gives instructions to patients. It can be controlled using a mobile app and costs more than Rs 1 lakh. But with the support from the government, the price could be lowered.
